Accurso receiving her MAC Championship medal in October
Dec. 6, 2011
ATHENS, Ohio - Juli Accurso of Ohio Women's Cross Country has been named a Scholar Athlete of the Week, the Mid-American Conference office announced recently.
Accurso had an incredible last race of the season at the 2011 NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Indiana on Nov. 21. The sophomore was already a Mid-American Conference Champion upon stepping up to the starting line and by the time she finished the race, she was an All-American. Accurso finished 36th in the competition, placing ahead of 218 other competitors. She set a school record in the process, completing the race in a time of 20:26.3. In an upperclassmen-heavy field, Accurso finished fifth of all sophomore competitors.
With her finish on Nov. 21, Accurso capped off one of the most successful individual seasons in Ohio Women's Cross Country history. She is the first Bobcat to claim All-American honors since Jackie Conrad in 1998.
Majoring in French, Accurso has achieved an impressive 3.82 GPA to date.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
