CLEVELAND – Sophomore guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) earned her fourth-career and Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award, the league announced on Monday (March 11).
Hooks has now won MAC East Player of the Week twice this season, and five Bobcats have won the award overall. She is joined by senior guard Dominique Doseck (Athens, Ohio) redshirt freshman Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio), sophomore forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) and junior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio).
Hooks, who is a pre-social work major, scored 22 points in Ohio's senior day win over Bowling Green, going 7-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She also grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists in 39 minutes. In Ohio's win over Miami, Hooks had 19 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Hooks was 8-of-11 from the line and also hit one three. Hooks added six rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes of play.
Hooks is currently No. 11 in the nation in steals per game at 3.14. She is also averaging 17.4 points per game, which is No. 79 in the nation.
Ohio earned a bye to the second round of the MAC Tournament and will face the winner of Western Michigan and Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The Bobcats play in the third game of the day, with the first game beginning at noon.
