NORMAL, Ill. – The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2017-18 season this afternoon, finishing in eighth at the 2017 Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State at the Weibring Golf Club. The Bobcats finished the tournament by shooting a 312 on Monday for a three-round total of 942 (+78).
Leading the Bobcats was junior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) who finished the tournament tied for 22nd place. Smiley finished Monday with a final round of 83, giving her a two-day total of 234 (+18).
Next for Ohio was junior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) who finished the third round with a score of 76, giving her a tournament total of 235 (+19) and a 26th place finish.
Senior Lily Pendy (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) wrapped up the Redbird Invitational in 27th place after finishing Monday with a score of 76, giving her a two-day total of 236 (+20). Sophomore Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) was next for Ohio, finishing Monday with a round of 77, giving her a two-day total of 237 (+21). The performance helped Balish finish the tournament tied for 30th place.
Rounding out the scoring Bobcats was freshman Amanda Hayes (Dayton, Ohio) who finished in 71st place after shooting a third-round score of 87, giving her a tournament total of 258 (+42).
Competing unattached for the Bobcats was freshman Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio), who finished the tournament tied for 53rd place after finishing Monday with a score of 82. Flynn finished the tournament with a three-round total of 245 (+29).
The Bobcats return to action Sept. 23-24 when they head to State College, Pa. to participate in the 2017 Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State at the Penn State Blue Golf Course.
