ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio women's golf team will continue their fall season this weekend as they travel to the 2017 Nittany Lion Invitational at State College, Pa. hosted by Penn State. The two-day, three-round tournament opens on Saturday, Sept. 23 and ends Sunday, Sept. 24. Round one begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start and continues for the rest of the day. The third and final round of play begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Par is set at 72 on the 6,341- yard Penn State Blue Golf Course.
The 14 teams competing for the 2017 Nittany Lion invitational include: Bucknell, Columbia, University of Delaware, Harvard, Maryland, Ohio, Penn State, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, Yale, and Youngstown State.
The Bobcats have not participated in the Nittany Lion Invitational since the 2013-14 season, where Ohio finished in tenth place, with a 922 (+58) and a final round score of 308.
The Bobcats began their 2017-18 season Sunday, Sept. 10 and Monday, Sept. 11, finishing eighth at the 2017 Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State at the Weibring Golf Club. They finished the tournament by shooting a 312 on Monday for a three-round total of 942 (+78).
Junior Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) led the Bobcats, who finished the tournament tied for 22nd place. Smiley finished Monday with a final round of 83, giving her a two-day total of 234 (+18). Junior Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) followed, finishing in the third round with a score of 76, giving her a tournament total of 235 (+19) and a 26th place finish.
