UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.– The Ohio women's golf team opened play at the 2018 Nittany Lion Invitational Saturday morning (Sept. 22). The Bobcats opened the event, that is hosted by Penn State at the 6,322-yard Penn State Blue Course, in 16th place after the first two rounds. The Bobcats finished the first round with a 319, before coming out later in the day to register a second round score of 318, giving them a day one total of 637 (+61).
Washington currently sits at the top of the leaderboard after finishing the day +5.
Leading the Bobcats individually is senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), who is currently tied for 43rd place at the end of day one. Hughes opened the day by shooting a first round score of 75, before coming back later in the day to shoot a 78, giving her a two-round total of 153 (+9).
Up next is junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) who finished the day tied for 62nd place. Balish opened the day by shooting an 81 in the first round, before coming back later in the day to register a second round score of 76, giving her a total of 157 (+13).
Next for the Bobcats is senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio), who wrapped up Saturday in 78th place after opening the tournament with a 78. Smiley would then shoot an 85 in the second round, giving her a day one total of 163 (+19).
Freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell. Ga.) opened the tournament by registering an 86, before coming out for the afternoon round and shooting an 81, giving her a total of 167 (+23), and tying her for 85th place. Senior Chloe McKinzie (Medina, Ohio), finished the day tied for 87th place, after shooting an 85 in the first round and an 83 in round two, giving her a two-round total of 168 (+24).
The Bobcats conclude play at the 2018 Nittany Lion Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 23 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
