YPSILANTI, Mich. – After fog delayed the start, the Ohio women's golf team opened play at the 2018 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational this morning (Oct. 8), finishing the day in eighth place after registering a first round score of 314 (+26). Due to the fog, the event hosted by Eastern Michigan at the 6,176-yard Eagle Crest Golf Club, has been shortened to 36 holes, with 18 played today and the final 18 set to be played tomorrow morning.
Bowling Green currently sits in the lead after registering a 297 (+9) in the first round.
Leading Ohio is senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), who is currently sitting in fifth place. Hughes finished the round by shooting a 72, leaving her even on the day.
Freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) is next, finishing the day tied for 25th place after shooting a 79 (+7) to begin the tournament. Senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) is next, finishing the day with an 80 (+8), placing her tied for 39th after the first round.
Senior Hannah Travis finished the day tied for 49th place, after finishing Monday with an 83 (+11). Rounding out the scoring Bobcats is junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.), who finished Monday tied for 52nd place after registering a first round score of 84 (+12).
Competing unattached for the Bobcats is sophomore Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio), who is also tied for 25th place, after recording a 79 (+7) on Monday.
Up next, the Bobcats wrap up play at the 2018 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 9, with the final 18 holes set to begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
