ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team concludes the fall portion of their 2018-19 schedule this weekend when they head to Noblesville, Ind., Sunday, Oct. 14 through Monday, Oct. 15 for the 2018 MAC Fall Preview. This year's preview is hosted by Central Michigan at the 6,125-yard Purgatory Golf Club. Par is set at 72, with the 54-hole tournament set to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Sunday and a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.
The 12 teams competing at this year's preview include: Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Ball State, Ohio, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Belmont, Western Michigan, Xavier, Bowling Green, Toledo, Fort Wayne
Competing for the Bobcats' at this year's event are, seniors Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) and Chloe McKinzie (Medina, Ohio) and freshmen Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) and Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio). Competing as an individual is sophomore Amanda Hayes (Dayton, Ohio).
Through the first four tournaments of the season, Hughes has led Ohio, finishing in the top-10 in three out of four events for the Bobcats, while averaging a 75.36 stroke average. Hughes has also recorded rounds of 70 and 71 for the Bobcats this season. Smiley has also been solid for the Bobcats, averaging a 77.09 stroke average through the first 11 rounds of play.
Loftus has also been a strong addition for Ohio's lineup. Also competing in all four events for the Bobcats, Loftus has registered a 79.72 stroke average, while also recording a season-low round of 72 earlier this season.
The Bobcats are coming off of an eighth-place finish at the fog shortened 2018 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, where the Bobcats finished with an overall score of 629 (+53). Hughes led the way, finishing tied for 10thplace with a 152 (+8), while Smiley tied for 18th(+11) and Loftus finished tied for 27th(+14).
The last time the Bobcats competed at the Fall Preview was in 2015, where the Bobcats placed ninth. Hughes and Smiley, who were freshmen at the time, both competed in the event, with Hughes finishing 31stand Smiley 53rd.
