ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team return to action this weekend when they head to Richmond, Ky. to compete in the 2019 Lady Colonel Classic, hosted by Eastern Kentucky. The competition takes place March 29-30 at the 5,885 University Club at Arlington.
Par is set at 72 with Friday's rounds set to begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, with Saturday's final round set to start with an 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Fans will be able to access live scoring HERE.
Competing at this year's event is, EKU, Akron, Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Cleveland State, Cumberlands, Dayton, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, Tennessee Tech, and Kentucky (individuals only).
Competing for Ohio in this year's event are senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio), junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.), senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) and senior Chloe McKinzie (Medina, Ohio). Competing unattached is freshman Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio).
This season, Hughes leads Ohio, sustaining a 76.26 stroke average and finishing as Ohio's top-finisher twice. Her stroke average places her at the top of the Mid-American Conference. Smiley, registering as Ohio's top finisher in four tournaments this season including the most recent 2019 Spring Break Shootout, improved to a 77.05 stroke average, moving up to secure third overall in the MAC.
Up next, the Bobcats head to Bowling Green, Ohio, April 6-7 for the 2019 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green State University at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.
