ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team is set to compete in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships that runs from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21. This year's tournament is hosted by Central Michigan at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. Par is set at 72 with teams teeing off starting at 9 a.m. on the first hole. All teams will participate in the three-day, 54-hole play event (18/18/18).
During the three-round tournament, the competitiors will see a minimum course yardage of 6000 yards and a maximum course yardage of 6300 yards.

This year's competing five for Ohio include seniors, Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) and Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio, freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.), junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) and freshman Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio).
Smiley and Hughes both competed in all nine events this season. In 24 rounds, Smiley recorded 1827 strokes for a 76.13 average, securing fifth overall in the MAC Conference. Her lowest round was 69 which she recorded at the 2019 Lady Colonel Classic. In 24 rounds, Hughes recorded 1829 strokes for a 76.21 average, securing sixth overall in the MAC Conference. Hughes is coming off a first-place victory at the 2019 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational. Her low round was 70 which she recorded at the 2018 Cardinal Classic.
In her freshman season, Loftus competed in all 24 rounds in the nine events this season. She recorded 1871 strokes for a 77.96 average. Loftus registered a low round of 71 at the 2019 Spring Break Shootout, securing 11th in the MAC Conference.
Balish competed in eight events this season. In 21 rounds, Balish recorded 1676 strokes for a 79.81 average this season. Her lowest round was 74 at the 2019 Rio Verde Invitational.
In three events and eight rounds during her freshman season, Porvasnik recorded 643 strokes, averaging 80.38 this season. Her lowest round was 76 at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
Ohio finished eighth in last year's championship tournament, ending with a three-round total of 957 (+93). Hughes led the Bobcats, tying for 23rd place after shooting a 78 on Sunday, finishing the competition with a three-day total of 237 (+21). Smiley finished the weekend tied for 26th after shooting a 239 (+23), followed by Balish who finished tied for 56th with a 250 (+34).
The Bobcats have previously claimed second place three times ('01, '02, and '05), but is still looking for its MAC Championship victory.
The Bobcats are coming off of the 2019 Dolores Black Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green on April 6th and 7th. Hughes won the Dolores Black Invitational for the second year in a row and helped Ohio finish second overall.
