Ohio Wrestling's Ashughyan Named HERO of the Week

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio redshirt junior Arsen Ashughyan (Vandazor, Armenia) has been named HERO of the Week by herosports.com in the Division 1 Wrestling category, the site announced via Twitter on Friday (Jan. 26).

Ashugyan earned the recognition after his impressive performance against Northern Illinois on Sunday (Jan. 21). Wrestling up a weight class at 184-pounds, the junior started the match with an escape before hitting a two-point near fall. He then pinned NIU's Bryce Gorman in just 45 seconds for back-to-back pins by the Bobcats, helping to lead Ohio to a 34-6 victory over the Huskies.

Ashughyan's fellow nominees included athletes in various weight classes and from several conferences including the ACC, the Big Ten and the Big 12. Hayden Hidlay (157) of North Carolina State, Spencer Lee (125) of Iowa, Kordell Norfleet (184) of Arizona State and Preston Weigel (197) of Oklahoma State would round out the five nominees.

The Bobcats are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 4. when they host Garner Webb in the Convocation Center. Action against the Runnin' Bulldogs is set to begin at 1:15 p.m.
