ATHENS, Ohio -- Five home dual meets highlight the Ohio wrestling team's 2018-19 schedule, which was announced today by head coach Joel Greenlee.
The Bobcats are set to celebrate the program's 100th year throughout the season.
"I think, in all honesty, we wrestle some pretty good teams. Teams that are top-10 teams, top-20 teams, traditional powerhouses," said Greenlee of the 2018-19 schedule. "We go to Iowa State, and that's going to be a great atmosphere to wrestle in. We've got Mizzou here, which is probably a top five or six team. It's exciting for us. We've got a young group. To me, that's what I remember about wrestling in college, was the atmosphere that you went into."
Ohio opens up the new campaign with a trip to East Lansing, Mich., for the Michigan State Open (Nov. 3). The Bobcats' first round dual meet of the 2018-19 season takes them to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on Campbell (Nov. 10). After taking part in the Navy Classic (Nov. 17) in Annapolis, Md., Ohio will close out the first month of the season with a visit to Appalachian State (Nov. 30).
The Bobcats will open the December portion of their schedule with a trip to Iowa State (Dec. 16). Ohio will then host its first home dual meet of season on Dec. 20 when it welcomes Chattanooga to the Convocation Center.
Ohio rings in 2019 at the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1) before playing host to Mid-American Conference meet against defending league champion Missouri (Jan. 11) and archrival Kent State (Jan. 18) at the Convo. After a trip to Charlottesville, Va., to face off with Virginia (Jan. 20), Ohio visits DeKalb, Ill., to square off with Northern Illinois (Jan. 27) in its first conference road meet of the season. The Bobcats rolled to a 34-6 win over the Huskies last season.
February begins with Ohio visiting Mount Pleasant, Mich., to battle Central Michigan (Feb. 3). The Bobcats will then play host to MAC meets against Old Dominion (Feb. 8) and Southern Illinois Edwardsville (Feb. 9). Southern Illinois Edwardsville enters its first season as a member of the MAC in 2018-19. The 2018-19 regular season schedule will conclude with road dual meets at Bloomsburg (Feb. 15), Buffalo (Feb. 17) and Gardner Webb (Feb. 23). Ohio downed Gardner Webb, 28-10, last February at the Convo.
Old Dominion will play host to the 2019 MAC Championships (March 8-9) in Norfolk, Va. The 2019 NCAA Championships will take place March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.
Among the returners for Ohio in 2018-19 is senior Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio), who made his second career trip to the NCAA Championships last season.
