Ohio Wrestling Closes Out November With Dual Meet At Appalachian State

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (0-1) will close out the month of November with a visit to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State (2-2) in a dual meet on Friday (Nov. 30). Action gets underway at 7 p.m. ET at Varsity Gymnasium.

The Bobcats are coming off of sixth-place finish out of 16 teams at the 41st Annual Navy Classic, which was held on Nov. 17 at Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. Redshirt senior Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) earned a first-place finish in the 285-pound weight class while three other Bobcats claimed top-six finishes to help Ohio earn 67.5 team points. In addition to Parker, redshirt junior Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) finished second at 125, redshirt freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) took third at 149 and junior Hunter Yeargan (Willard, Mo.) placed sixth at 184.

Ohio fell to Campbell, 19-13, in its first dual meet of the 2018-19 season on Nov. 10 at Carter Gym in Buies Creek, N.C. Redshirt sophomore Nick Vestal (Wilmington, Ohio) earned a 6-3 decision at 157. Freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) came away with a 16-6 major decision win at 165.) Parker won by a 6-3 decision in the heavyweight bout while redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) Guillen delivered a win by a 4-3 decision at 133.

Laney enters this weekend's matchup at Appalachian State ranked No. 16 in his weight class by InterMat and No. 19 by WIN Magazine.

Appalachian State is coming off of a 28-7 home loss to No. 15-ranked North Carolina on Sunday (Nov. 25). Senior Randall Diabe picked up a 10-2 major decision victory at 197 while sophomore Codi Russell earned a 4-3 decision win at 133. Diabe is the reigning Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week.

The Bobcats and the Mountaineers met on Dec. 2, 2017, last season at the Convocation Center in Athens, with Appalachian State earning an 18-14 victory over Ohio.
