ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio sophomore swimmer Hannah Schlegel (Birdsboro, Pa.) has been named Mid-American Conference Co-Swimmer of the week for her record-breaking performance in the 2018 Ohio State Invitational this weekend (Nov. 15-17).
Schlegel recorded life time bests in the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and in the 400-yard IM at the 2018 Ohio State Invitational. She also recorded a life time best in the 1650-yard freestyle event with a time of 16:23.80 that places her first in the conference and Top 25 in the NCAA.
Schlegel kicked off the 2018 OSU Invitational with a time of 4:47.36 in the 500-yard freestyle for a 15th place finish and a 3rd place spot in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10 500-yard freestyle record book. The following day of the OSU Invitational, Schlegel placed 35th with a time of 1:50.82 in the 200-yard freestyle for a life time best and also recorded a 19th place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:19.09. Her 400-yard IM swim time registered her second swim placing her in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10 record book, this time in the 5th ranked spot. Schlegel wrapped up her record-breaking meet invitational meet with a 7th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle on the final day of competition. With a time of 16:23.80, a 27 second drop from her previous personal best, Schlegel grabbed her third new record in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10 holding a 3rd ranked spot with a time of 16:23.80.
The Bobcats will return to action in their first dual of the 2019 season traveling to Buffalo, N.Y, to compete in the Buffalo Diving Invitational on Friday, January 11th through Sunday, January 13th. This three-day, all day, event will be held at Alumni Arena Natatorium.
Schlegel and Ohio swim and dive will join forces for the first time in the 2019 year in Toledo, Ohio where the Bobcats will compete in its third MAC Conference dual meet against Toledo on Friday, January 18th. This meet is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. EST at the Toledo Student Recreation Center Pool.
