Porter Qualifies for MACs as Bobcats Conclude Season’s First Dual

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Ohio track and field kicked off the 2017-18 indoor season at the 2017 Marshall Opener on Thursday (Dec. 7) where they fell to the Thundering Herd 82-28. Senior Jordan Porter qualified for this year's indoor MAC Championships with her performance today.

FIELD EVENTS
In the first event of the evening, sophomore Keilah Causey (Gahanna, Ohio) picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump reaching 4.75m.

Junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed first for the 'Cats and third overall in the weight throw event reaching 16.55m. Senior Cassidy Cleland (Reedsville, Ohio) and freshman Abby Moore placed next for Ohio taking fourth and fifth place with throws reaching 15.30m and 15.05m, respectively.

Sophomore Atiya Spaulding (Chesapeake, Ohio) recorded a third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.58m to score for the 'Cats. Sophomore Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) also scored for Ohio reaching 1.43m and taking fifth place.

Junior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) wrapped up the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.00m. This performance automatically qualifies Porter for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships that will be held in February at MAC rival, Bowling Green.

RUNNING EVENTS
Ohio's top scorer in the 60-meter hurdles was senior Mya Hodge (Dublin, Ohio). Hodge finished in third crossing with a 9.01 time.

In the 60-meter dash, four Bobcats qualified for the finals including senior Courtney Guiley (Louisville, Ohio), junior Callyn Voase (Mentor, Ohio), freshman Olivia Brewer, and Hodge. Guiley posted a time of 7.99 to take third, Voase an 8.09 to take fifth, Brewer an 8.10 to take sixth, and Hodge an 8.15 to take seventh.

In the 600-meter run, Ohio placed third with sophomore Marissa Handel (Highland Heights, Ohio) coming in at 1:43.70.

Ohio secured fourth place in the 800-meter run with junior Erin Stewart (Chardon, Ohio), clocking in at 2:28.47.

Voase finished the 300-meter dash in fourth place after clocking in a time of 46.05.

The Opener concluded with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay with Stewart, Brewer, Causey, and Handel finishing in 4:25.77.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats will now prepare for their first event of the New Year where they will return to compete at the Youngstown State Invitational hosted by the YSU Penguins on Friday, Jan. 19.
