Ohio Track and Field Competes in Thundering Herd Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio track and field heads to Huntington, W. Va. to compete in Marshall's Thundering Herd Invitational this weekend (Jan. 26-27). Action for the two-day meet is set to begin at 8:30 p.m. Friday and at 12 p.m. Saturday in the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.

Bobcats will compete in track events such as the 5000-meter, 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, mile run, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run and 1600-meter relay. Ohio will also be competing in field events such as the weight throw, long jump, high jump, shot put, and the triple jump. The official schedule complete with event times is available here.

There are 13 teams registered to compete including one Mid-American Conference team, Bowling Green. Ohio will also see Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, St. Louis, Tennessee State, Winthrop, Wofford, and Xavier. SCOUTING OHIO
Ohio heads to Huntington coming off of the Youngstown State College Invite (Jan. 19) where the Bobcats beat Robert Morris (66-65) and West Virginia (71-53) but fell to YSU (84-58), Pittsburgh (99-52), and Duquesne (77.5-62.5).

Ohio secured a total of eight, top-10 finishes in seven events; the 5K, 60m, 3K high jump, weight throw, and the shot put.

Track Events
The running events were kicked off with the 5K where sophomore Tiffany Hill (Dublin, Ohio) placed second overall with a time of 18:16.87.

In the qualifying 60m dash, freshman Abby Summers (Powell, Ohio) clocked in a time of 8.35 to finish sixth.

Sophomore Abby Miller (Mansfield, Ohio) placed fifth overall in the 3K with a time of 10:18.33. Junior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) rounded out the top-10 placing eighth with a time of 10:28.55.

Field Events
The meet opened with the Bobcats in the seeded high jump, where sophomore Tana Barrett (Newark, Ohio) tied for seventh with a jump of 1.56m (5' 1.25").

In the unseeded high jump, sophomore Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) tied for 10th with a jump of 1.46m (4' 9.5").

Junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed sixth in the weight throw after her throw reaching 17.35m (56' 11.25").

The next event was shot put where senior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) placed fourth with a throw of 14.24m (46' 8.75").

UP NEXT
The Bobcats plan to split up between the Akron Invitational and the Meyo Invitational both held Feb. 2-3.
