ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball program has added Danielle Davis to its coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach, as announced by fourth-year head coach Deane Webb on Monday (Aug. 14).
Davis joins the Bobcats following a four-year collegiate career as a defensive specialist at Illinois.
"I've been impressed with Danielle in the short time we've worked together. She enjoyed success while competing at Illinois, and she's already making an impact on our success here at Ohio."
Davis started 72 of the 114 matches she played in for the Fighting Illini from 2013-16, piling up 798 career digs. She garnered Academic All-Big Ten Conference honors in each of her final three seasons in Champaign. Davis helped lead Illinois to three-straight NCAA Championship Regional appearances in each of her first three seasons. She graduated from Illinois in 2016 with a degree in kinesiology.
Prior to arriving in Athens, Davis served as an assistant coach at the club level for 17 Cardinal in Illinois that won the 17 Open Division at the AAU National Championships in Orlando.
A native of Bloomington, Ill., Davis earned first-team all-conference and first-team all-area honors four times (2010-13) at Central Catholic High School, helping to lead the Saints to third-place state finish in 2010.
"I am extremely excited and honored to become a part of Ohio volleyball," said Davis. "The Bobcat family, culture and tradition of success is truly something special. I want to thank head coach Deane Webb and everyone else involved in the process for this incredible opportunity."
Ohio has gone 64-28 (.696) in three seasons under the direction of Webb -- including 40-8 in the MAC play. The Bobcats won a MAC regular season title with a perfect 16-0 league year in 2014, then captured the conference tournament title in 2015.
Ohio's 2017 preseason schedule features a scrimmage against Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday (Aug. 17.) The match is slated for a 7 p.m. ET start at the Convo. The Bobcats will also hold their annual Green & White Scrimmage at the Convocation Center on Saturday (Aug. 19). Action gets underway at 3 p.m. ET. Before the match, the team will host a free clinic for children in kindergarten through sixth grade from 1-2 p.m. ET.
