CLEVELAND -- Redshirt senior outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) of the Ohio volleyball team (9-14, 4-6 MAC) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Kosiorek becomes the third Bobcat to earn conference weekly award honors in 2018, joining sophomore middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.), who was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4, and sophomore setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy), who was named the MAC East Division Setter of the Week on Sept. 24. She earns conference weekly award recognition for the first time in her career.
Kosiorek put together a big two-match stretch for the Bobcats last weekend, hitting at .419 clip with a team-high 37 kills (4.62 per set). She also ranked second on the team with four service aces (0.50 per set) and 29 digs (3.62 per set). Kosiorek broke the program record for career service aces in the rally scoring era in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) sweep of Western Michigan last Friday (Oct. 19) at the Convocation Center, recording three to bring her career total to 163. She also led the match with 13 kills and a career-best .619 hitting percentage and achieved a double-double with 13 digs. The following day in a tough 3-2 (25-23, 25-27, 17-25, 32-30, 15-7) loss to Northern Illinois at the Convo, Kosiorek hit .340 with a season-high 24 kills to lead the team and posted another double-double with a season-high 16 digs.
Coming off a season-ending leg injury in 2017, Kosiorek leads the Ohio volleyball through 23 matches in 2018 with 262 kills (2.94 per set) and 44 service aces (0.49 per set) and ranks third on the squad with 207 digs (2.33 per set). She leads the team lead with seven double doubles and has posted double-digit kills 15 times and double-digit digs nine times this season. Kosiorek has recorded three or more service aces six times this year -- including five or more four times.
Ohio visits MAC East Division rival Kent State on Thursday (Oct. 25) for a 7 p.m. match at the M.A.C. Center, then returns to the Convo on Saturday (Oct. 27) for a 6 p.m. match against MAC West Division foe Eastern Michigan.
