Ohio Volleyball Welcomes Five for 2019 Season

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball program announced the addition of five student-athletes in the early signing period, head coach Deane Webb announced Thursday (Jan. 7). Emily Margolies, Olivia Margolies, Caitlin O'Farrell, Jaylen Rogers and Ashton Webb are set to join the Bobcats for the 2019 season.

"Our 2019 class offers a great deal of versatility to our team as a number of these players could play multiple positions at the collegiate level," head coach Deane Webb said. "This class is likely further along in ball control than some other classes we've signed at Ohio, and it's a class whose true potential will be realized as they make gains in the weight room.  I'm looking forward to them joining us soon!"

EMILY MARGOLIES | Galena, Ohio | Oletangy High School

  • Recorded 400 kills, 347 digs, 150 blocks and 24 aces during her junior and senior season
  • All-Ohio Capital Conference and All-District in 2018
  • Played for Mintonette Volleyball Club and Elite Volleyball Club
  • Won An Open National Championship with Mintonette
  • Parents are Laura and Matthew
  • Has two brothers, Brendan and Kyle
  • Her twin sister, Olivia, is also signing with Ohio

WEBB ON MARGOLIES: "Emily is a versatile player, having played the majority of her career as a successful opposite attacker before setting for her high school her senior year and finding considerable success at that position as well.  I could see her succeeding at both positions at the collegiate level for the Bobcats, and I look forward to helping her reach her potential."

OLIVIA MARGOLIES | Galena, Ohio | Olentangy High School

  • Had over 1,000 career kills in her high school career
  • Recorded 669 kills and 588 digs with 84 aces over her junior and senior season
  • First-Team All-Ohio Capital Conference in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018
  • Honorable Mention All-Ohio as a senior
  • Won an Open National Championship with Mintonette Volleyball Club
  • Parents are Laura and Matthew
  • Has two brothers, Brendan and Kyle
  • Her twin sister, Emily, is also signing with Ohio

WEBB ON MARGOLIES: "Olivia has been the lead attacker for her high school team and is used to carrying the load offensively.  The more I've watched her, the more impressed I've been with her all around skill potential as a six rotation outside hitter at Ohio.  As she gains power as an attacker, she will put herself in position to have a great career."

CAITLIN O'FARRELL | Suwanee, Georgia | North Gwinnett High School

  • 2018 Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American
  • 2018 First-team All-Georgia
  • 2018 AAU All-American
  • 2018 Gwinnett Daily Post Player of the Year
  • First-Team All Gwinnett County and Gwinnett County Volleyball Player of the Year
  • All time Georgia career hitting percentage leader at .445
  • Led Georgia hitters with a .515 hitting percentage in 2018
  • Recorded 339 kills and 89 blocks as a senior
  • Took North Gwinnett High School to the Final Four in 2018
  • Parents are Patrick and Angie O'Farrell
  • Has one sister, Shea

WEBB ON O'FARRELL: "Caitlin gets better literally every time we see her.  She's gone from a slight of build middle hitter with potential to a player that has the best career hitting percentage in the history of Georgia high school volleyball.  I'm looking forward to watching similar levels of growth at the college level."

JAYLEN ROGERS | Guysville, Ohio | Federal Hocking High School

  • Four-year letterwinner in high school
  • First-team All-Tri Valley Conference in 2018
  • Played on ALETA Club
  • Mother is Shannon Flowers Rogers
  • Has one brother, Cameron and one sister, McKenna

WEBB ON ROGERS: "Jaylen is another versatile player, and could see time as both an outside hitter and middle.  As she spends focused time in the weight room, she could go from a twitchy athlete currently touching over 10' to truly an impressive all-around athlete that could impact the game in a variety of ways."

ASHTON WEBB | Gallipolis, Ohio | Gallia Academy High School

  • First Gallia Academy player to reach 1,000 kills
  • First team All-Ohio Valley Conference and First team All-District in 2016, 2017 and 2018

  • Parents are Margaret and Shannon Webb
  • Has one sister, Abby

WEBB ON WEBB: "Ashton could see time at both outside hitter and as a defensive specialist.   My favorite thing about watching Ashton play is that she is a fearless defender.  She plays with incredible intensity, is an energy provider for her team, and seems to be a glue kid that just makes everyone around her better."
