Laura Santos enters her second season with the Ohio volleyball program under fifth-year head coach Deane Webb in 2018 and first as volunteer assistant coach after spending the 2017 campaign as the director of operations.
Santos spent the 2016 season on the Oregon State coaching staff. A former two-time All-American at Illinois, the former Laura Debruler comes to the Bobcats with over nine years of playing, coaching and management experience at the collegiate, club and professional levels. Laura served as an assistant coach at Bowling Green before joining Oregon State. Her responsibilities included serving as the Falcons' recruiting coordinator. Laura coached a pair of All-MAC Honorable Mentions. Prior to her stint at Bowling Green, Laura served as a top assistant coach at Western Illinois for just over two years. In 2013, Laura helped guide the Leathernecks back to the Summit League conference tournament for the first time since 2007, while also organizing recruiting efforts. She earned her first collegiate coaching opportunity in January 2012, serving as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater, Illinois, where she gained experience in scouting, analysis and recruiting, while aiding in the development of pin players and primary passers. Laura also gained experience as the assistant coach and head coach of the Prime Time volleyball club team.
As an outside hitter at Illinois, Laura was named a First-Team All-American in 2009 after being tabbed a Second-Team All-American in '08. She was a three-time All-Big Ten Conference selection and finished her career with the second-highest kills total (1,833) all-time at Illinois. She is certified by the Women's Coaches Academy, and gained professional playing experience as a member of the NUC volleyball club in Switzerland during the 2011 season.
A native of Downers Grove, Ill., Laura graduated from Illinois in 2011 with a degree in psychology.
Santos is married to Rodnei Santos, who is entering his first season as an assistant coach on Webb's staff in 2017.
