ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's cross country team has been selected to finish ninth of the twelve teams in the Mid-American Conference in a vote of the league's head coaches, it was announced today.
The Bobcats are chosen to finish ahead of MAC rivals Ball State, Akron, and Kent State. Eastern Michigan was selected to finish first in the MAC followed by Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Toledo, Central Michigan, Miami, Buffalo and Western Michigan.
At the 2016 MAC Cross Country Championships, Ohio's women finished ninth. All five Bobcat scorers are returners and were led by Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) in 26th place, Abby Miller (Mansfield, Ohio) in 51st, Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) in 60th, Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) in 61st and Christina Seas (Coldwater, Ohio) in 66th. Atkinson finished the race in 22:09.1, Miller in 22:57.7, Sury, in 23:10.2, Deering in 23:10.5 and Seas in 23:14.3.
The Bobcats return a total of 11 runners consisting of four seniors, four juniors, and four sophomores. Ohio also welcomes one new senior and six new freshmen.
Ohio looks forward to competing in the first event of the season at the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky on Sept. 9th. The women's race will start promptly at 9:30 a.m.
