@OhioBobcats Continue Academic Success With Release of Latest APR

May 10, 2017

ATHENS, Ohio – Following the release of the 2015-16 NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Wednesday, Ohio has continued to see solid academic progress from its 16 intercollegiate programs, including 15 of 16 teams posting multiyear rates above 970.

The women’s golf and women’s cross country teams had perfect 1,000 APR scores earning Public Recognition Awards for their multiyear rates.

Ohio’s men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, track & field, wrestling, field hockey, softball, volleyball, swimming & diving and soccer teams finished above 970 with the only remaining program, baseball, finishing above 960 in multiyear rates.

None of Ohio's 16 sports will face any penalty for low or substandard APR scores.

Thirteen of Ohio’s 16 sports finished above 970 in the 2015-16 single-year APR with wrestling, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s golf, soccer, swimming and diving, track and volleyball finishing with perfect 1,000 scores.

The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every NCAA Division I athletics team. The most recent scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.

The goal of academic reform is improvement, not punishment. Not only does academic reform ensure accountability for student-athletes, teams and institutions, but it also provides fairness by considering individual circumstances per team and school.
