YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ohio Bobcats had four hits against Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon, but couldn't overcome the Eagles' power hitting in an 8-0 loss.
Sophomore Deanna Hartsough (Santa Ana, Calif.) had Ohio's first hit with a double to left center in the top of the first, and senior Kristen Salvatore (Kirtland, Ohio) notched a single down the left field line in the second inning, but neither would score.
Eastern Michigan was explosive in the first three innings, scoring four runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third.
The Bobcats got their third hit in the fourth inning when senior Maureen McKelvey (Stow, Ohio) doubled to right field. Sophomore Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.) followed with a single to left field in the sixth inning, but the `Cats couldn't manage to get on the scoreboard.
Three players saw action in the pitching circle for the Bobcats. Freshman Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) started the game and pitched one inning. She gave up three hits and four runs, while striking out one batter. Senior Michelle Sauter (Chehalis, Wash.) came in and pitched two innings, giving up three runs on three hits, and sophomore Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.) pitched the last 2.1 innings of the game. She allowed one run on two hits.
The Bobcats will play Eastern Michigan again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
