CLEVELAND – For their efforts in helping Ohio Baseball earn the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament, Senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) and sophomore LHP Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) were named MAC Player and Co-Pitcher of the Week.
In a must win contest for Ohio to win continue its season, Rott, a sport management major, hit two home runs for the Bobcats and had four RBI in the victory. Rott had a total of 12 RBI last week, including three in Ohio's series opening win over WMU and five in Ohio's midweek game against Marshall. Rott had a multi-hit game in every contest this week and added two doubles to his two home runs. He had an impressive slugging percentage of 1.000 and reached base in a .579 clip last week.
Rott now has 284 hits in his career, two behind the all-time leader in Ohio history, Jake Madsen. Rott his hitting a career-best .377 this season and has 10 home runs and a total of 28 extra base hits this season.
Manis played a crucial role in both of Ohio's must win games over WMU. In Ohio's first win of the series, Manis tossed 3.0 innings and struck out four batters to get his first win of the season. Manis then got the hold in the MAC Tournament spot clinching win on Saturday, tossing a season-long 4.1 innings and fanning a season-best seven batters.
Manis has a 3.21 ERA this season and has fanned a career-best 55 batters in 42.0 innings pitched.
Brady Miller from Western Michigan also won MAC Pitcher of the Week.
Ohio will begin the MAC Tournament on Wednesday at 12:30 against No. 3 Kent State.
