LEXINGTON, S.C. -- The Ohio baseball team (3-1) closed out the opening weekend of the 2017 season by shutting out Butler (3-1), 4-0), on Saturday (Feb. 19) at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Redshirt junior right-handed starting pitcher Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), senior right-handed pitcher Tom Colletti (Wheaton, Ill.), senior righty Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) and senior right-handed closer Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) combined to throw a four-hit shutout for the Bobcats. Klein tossed the first four scoreless frames, striking out five. Colletti fanned two in two innings of work. Rudnick totaled four strikeouts over two frames. Roehn came on in the top of the ninth inning and struck out two.

Senior shortstop Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left to start up Ohio's bats. Finkler finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Both junior left fielder Evan Bourn (Overland Park, Kan.) and senior catcher Anthony Mrosla (Coon Rapids, Minn.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Bobcats.

Mrosola got the scoring started in a two-run second as he led off with a base hit and scored one out later on a double to left center by sophomore center fielder Devon Garcia (Bowling Green, Ohio). After stealing third, Garcia scored the second run of the frame on a single by Finkler.

Bourn scored Ohio's fourth and final run in the fifth after hitting a one-out single and later scoring on a single to right by senior third baseman Mateus Vakuda (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Freshman second baseman Zach Jarosz accounted for Butler's lone extra-base hit of the day -- a one-out double to left in the eighth.

Butler junior right-handed pitcher Garrett Christman was tagged with the pitching defeat after surrendering three earned runs on five hits and two outs in three innings of work. He struck out five.

On Saturday (Feb. 18), Ohio split a pair of games on its second day of action in Lexington. The Bobcats rolled to a 14-5 win over La Salle, then fell to Butler, 15-4. Serving as the designated hitter, Klein went 3-of-5 with a double and his second home run in as many days in the victory over the Explorers. Redshirt junior catcher Nick Bredeson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) finished 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run, drove in three runs and scored three. Making his Ohio debut on the mound, junior southpaw starting pitcher Butch Baird (Big Prairie, Ohio) fanned three and allowed just one earned run on five hits. Redshirt sophomore right-handed pitcher Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.), senior righty Christian Botter (Toronto, Ontario) and senior left-hander Matt Mikolajczak (New Lenox, Ill.) combined to toss 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
