Box Score

DAYTON, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (7-6) falls in the series opener to Wright State (8-5) at Nischwitz Stadium on Thursday (March 9) 6-1.

Redshirt junior designated hitter Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) went 1-for-4 while collecting his team-leading fourth double and knocking in a run.

The Raiders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when they knocked in a pair of runs in the bottom of the second.

After not capitalizing on a leadoff single by senior second baseman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) in the fifth, Ohio cut Wright State’s lead in half in the sixth. Senior right fielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) led off the inning with a single and was immediately moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior infielder Tyler Finkler (Olmsted Falls, Ohio). The Raiders recorded another out as Ibarra remained stranded at second. Klein came up and cracked a liner to left-center for a two-out double to knock in Ibarra and cut the Raider lead to 2-1.

After Ohio battled back in the sixth, Wright State knocked in four runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a four-run lead.

Redshirt junior left-handed starting pitcher Gerry Salisbury (Brunswick, Ohio) suffered the loss on the mound for Ohio as he allowed just two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings of work.

Ibarra and sophomore centerfielder Devon Garcia (Bowling Green, Ohio) each had a pair of base knocks in the game on four plate appearances.

The Bobcats look to split the series Friday (March 9) in 1 p.m. ET matchup.
