@Ohio_Baseball's Rudnicki Named @MACSports East Division Pitcher Of The Week

April 24, 2017

MAC Release

CLEVELAND -- Ohio baseball senior right-handed pitcher Jake Rudnicki (Toledo, Ohio) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday (April 24).

Rudnicki garners weekly conference honors for the second time in his career and first time in 2017. He becomes the third Bobcat to earn such recognition this season. Redshirt junior right-hander Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) was named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 27 while junior southpaw Butch Baird (Big Prairie, Ohio) earned honors on March 6. The Bobcats have also garnered four MAC East Division Player of the Week nods this year. Senior outfielder Spencer Ibarra (Fort Collins, Colo.) was named MAC East Division Player of the Week on both March 20 and April 4 while redshirt junior infielder/right-handed pitcher Michael Klein (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) garnered recognition on Feb. 20 and sophomore first baseman Rudy Rott received honors last Monday (April 17).

Rudnicki helped Ohio (19-20, 5-7 MAC) finish with three victories in four games last week with his performance out of the bullpen, going 2-0 with four strikeouts while allowing just six hits, four walks and no runs over three appearances and 4.2 innings of work. Rudnicki threw one scoreless inning of relief last Wednesday (April 19) in an 11-10 win in 10 innings over longtime rival Marshall at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, fanning two while giving up a hit and a walk. On Friday (April 21), he picked up his first victory on the mound of the 2017 season in a 9-5 triumph over MAC East Division archrival Miami at Bob Wren Stadium, striking out one while surrendering just three hits and two walks in 1.2 frames. Rudnicki improved to 2-3 on the year by earning the win on the mound in the Sunday (April 23) series finale -- a 3-2 win that allowed the Bobcats to clinch the weekend series from the RedHawks. He struck out one while giving up two hits and a walk in two scoreless frames of relief.

Ohio returns to the road this weekend for a three-game series in Kalamazoo, Mich., against MAC West Division foe Western Michigan (16-19, 6-9 MAC). The series opener is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Friday (April 28) at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field. The Saturday (April 29) and Sunday (April 30) matchups are both set for 1 p.m. ET starts. 'Voice of the Bobcats' Russ Eisenstein will have the call of all three games on WOUB 1340 AM and online on OhioBobcats.com via Stretch Internet.
