ATHENS, Ohio -- Sophomore running back Julian Ross (Kansas City, Mo.) saw action in eight games for the Ohio football team in his rookie campaign of 2017, rushing for 250 yards on 60 carries and scoring three touchdowns. He also returned six kickoffs for 186 yards, averaging 31 yards per return.
OhioBobcats.com caught up with Ross following the Bobcats' eighth practice of fall camp today for a quick question and answer session.
Q: What goals did you set for yourself for fall camp?
A: My main goals are really honestly just to become better. Learn the plays quicker, make my checks faster, more of a read on defenses. Overall, just becoming a better teammate."
Q: What do you feel are the strengths of the offense?
A: I like how our team is spread out. We have a good running back group, but we also have a great wide receiver group, too. They're all young guys, so it'll be great to have them in the upcoming years. They're going to keep learning and getting better, so I'm really excited for that."
Q: What are the strengths of your position group?
A: We're very versatile. We bring a lot to the game. We can catch the ball as well as run it. We're all pretty fast, too.
Q: What part of your game have you been working to improve since the end of last season?
A: Definitely blocking. I gained a little weight so I can take on people much better than I did. Also, it's just a mental thing. So I've been preparing myself mentally to get better and take on anything and anyone. That's what I believe I need to step up at, so that's what I've been working on.
Q: How has felt to finally be in full pads the last two days?
A: It's been feeling like football for awhile, and I was pretty ready for it. These last few days have been great. We've been seeing each other, seeing how these pads pop. It's pretty nice to get that feeling, and we're all ready to go.
Q: What are the keys to this team winning a championship this season?
A: Looking at us, I think this team is very special. Our seniors, we have a great group. They're amazing, honestly. We've all got our eyes on that prize. Everyone wants it, so we're just going to have to go get it.
