CLEVELAND -- The Ohio football team has been selected to win the Mid-American Conference East Division in the 2019 MAC Football Coaches Preseason Poll, the league announced today. The poll was determined based upon voting by all 12 of the conference's head coaches.

Toledo was picked to win the West Division, setting up a matchup with the Bobcats in the 2019 Marathon MAC Football Championship Game, which will be held at Ford Field on Saturday, Dec. 7 at noon ET and televised nationally on ESPN2.

In the East Division, Ohio was the unanimous winner as the Bobcats gathered all first-place votes for a total of 72 total points.  Second-place was separated by only one point as Buffalo finished second with 50 points, followed by Miami in third with 49 points.  Kent State finished fourth followed by Akron and Bowling Green.

In the West Division, a margin of 10 points separated the top three programs. Toledo was selected in first-place with 59 total points, followed by second-place Western Michigan with 56 points and third-place Northern Illinois with 49 points. Eastern Michigan finished fourth with 42 points followed by Ball State and Central Michigan.

In late July at MAC Media Day, Ohio was selected as the unanimous favorite to win the East Division and earned a league-high 13 votes to win the MAC Championship Game in the 2019 MAC Football Media Preseason Poll, which was determined by the league's media members.

Over the last 14 years under the leadership of head coach Frank Solich, Ohio has recorded 106 wins, captured four MAC East Division titles, appeared in 10 bowl games and tallied four bowl victories. The Bobcats recorded their second-straight nine-win season in 2018, capping the year off with a 27-0 shutout of San Diego State in the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl to record their second-straight bowl win. Ohio is set to return three All-MAC selections from the 2018 squad, including senior quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada), redshirt senior defensive back Javon Hagan (Jacksonville, Fla.) and redshirt senior punter Michael Farkas (Mishawaka, Ind.).

Ohio will kick off the 2019 regular season on Saturday (Aug. 31), with a home matchup against Rhode Island at Peden Stadium. The contest is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. For ticket information, call the ticket office at 1-800-575-2287 or click here.
