CLEVELAND -- Senior quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) of the Ohio football team has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for week eight of the 2019 season, as announced by the conference office today.
Rourke was recognized with weekly conference honors for the second time this season and eighth time in his career. The Bobcats have now tallied five MAC East Division Player of the Week honors in 2019, with redshirt junior linebacker Jared Dorsa (Kings Mills, Ohio) earning Defensive Player of the Week recognition for week one, Rourke garnering Offensive Player of the Week recognition for week three, redshirt freshman Louie Zervos (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) being named Special Teams Player of the Week for week four and redshirt freshman running back O'Shaan Allison (Norristown, Pa.) earning Offensive Player of the Week honors for week six.
Rourke threw for a career-high 342 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores to help lift Ohio (3-4, 2-1 MAC) to a critical 45-38 MAC East Division victory over Kent State (3-4, 2-1 MAC) last Saturday (Oct. 19) at Peden Stadium. Ohio racked up a season-high 45 points, 571 yards of total offense and 31 first downs with Rourke recording his first career game with at least 300 passing yards. He completed 19 of his 28 passing attempts (67.9 percent). Rourke threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to redshirt sophomore wide receiver Isiah Cox (Jasper, Ala.) in the first quarter, tossed a 51-yard scoring strike to redshirt freshman wide receiver Jerome Buckner (Columbus, Ohio) in the second quarter, ran for a for a three-yard touchdown in the second quarter and ran for a seven-yard score in the fourth quarter that ultimately put the Bobcats ahead of the Golden Flashes for good. Rourke became the first Ohio quarterback to pass for at least 300 yards in a game since Greg Windham threw for 380 against Texas State in 2016. Rourke has now been responsible for at least four touchdowns in a single game 10 times in his career and extended his school record for career touchdowns responsible for to 94. He has now thrown for 6,249 yards in his career, giving him the distinction of being one of only two quarterbacks in program history to throw for at least 6,000 career yards along with Tyler Tettleton (9,125 yards; 2009-13). Rourke's 50 career passing touchdowns rank second in program history while his 42 career rushing touchdowns rank third.
East Division-leading Ohio will travel to Muncie, Ind., to take on MAC West Division leader Ball State (4-3, 3-0 MAC) on Saturday (Oct. 26). Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET from Scheumann Stadium.
