Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Frank Solich

On the game:
"It was a tough ball game. It was going to be a game where a turnover here or there could really make the difference so we wanted to make sure that didn't happen. The first half, I don't think we played particularly well. We were hurting ourselves. We has three penalties in the first five-or-so minutes of the game. We only had 15 offensive plays, maybe, in the first half. In the second half, it was a different story. Once we got the running game going in the second half, then it became a real ball game as far as we were concerned."

On Kalvin McRae's three carries in the first half, compared with 20 in the second half:
"In the first half we were disjointed a little bit. We just couldn't get things going the way we wanted to. We weren't sharp. We were causing ourselves problems. I don't know what the time of possession was, but they had to have the ball a great deal longer in that first half than what we did. There wasn't enough opportunity to get a true offense going. In the second half, we decided to run at them. We started having success with that, so we just kept coming back to that, and that's when Kalvin's going to get a lot of touches when you can run that style of offense."

On Michael Mitchell's interception after the Bobcats' were stopped on fourth down:
"It was real big. You can look at that call (the decision to go on fourth down) a lot of different ways. There would be a sad guy sitting here if we wouldn't have been able to come back and get the points on the board. With their field goal kicker, you don't feel comfortable being two points up. We wanted to try and put it in the end zone and extend that lead a little bit more. It backfired on us, but the interception was huge. It gave us great field position. He had a nice run back and his teammates helped him blocking along the way so that was a big play."

On securing a winning regular season and being one win away from winning the division:
"It feels good to be part of a winning football team. I think everybody in the program feels that way from people in the support group to the staff to all the players. They've earned it. These guys have done a great job putting themselves in this position. We're excited about it. We've got two tough games to go. We're going to have to play really well to still make it work. We've got two games to go. We just need to play great for two games."

On whether the staff knew Kalvin was close to getting 100 yards for a school-record fifth straight time:
"Not really. It was obvious he was getting some yards there in the second half so we knew that could be happening, but we had no idea where he really was in that regard to yards during the game."

On the importance of the win heading into the bye week:
"We weren't looking ahead. It was important for us to get the win, of course. Right now, we're a little beat up. We had some guys come off that couldn't go back on the field. We have some guys that have been banged up throughout the latter part of the season here and are playing hurt so we could really use that time off right now. We'll try to use it wisely and try to get some guys healed up. I'm not concerned about it hurting momentum or anything like that. Right now, we need a little rest and a little time to heal up. It comes at a great time for us."

On the play of the defense:
"They've had an excellent year so far as a group. They (EMU) had that one big play down the sideline that put them in position to score their touchdown. Other than that, even in the first half, it wasn't a deal where they were just threatening us with what they were doing offensively. The defense stepped up big time. I think it was a combination of both the defense playing really well in the second half and the offense being able to establish a ground game and get control of the ball and give the defense a little bit of a rest for a period of time. They worked well together."

On safeties Steven Jackson and Ervin Jackson:
"I think those safeties did a great job. They've come in and worked hard this week studying film to try and get ready to make sure they were really contributing to the success of this football team today. I feel good about what they got accomplished."

Junior Running Back Kavlin McRae

On his 46-yard run that sealed the game:
"That play was designed to go inside, but everybody slanted down inside. I took a gamble going outside. Coach Albin always tells us that if you go outside, you gotta be right. It was open so I took a chance and went outside. Justin Fitzgerald had a great block on the outside. That was just getting yards and trying to stay in bounds."

On becoming the first Ohio back to run for 100 yards in five straight games:
"I'm really not paying attention to that. As long as we get the win, I'm happy if I get 65 yards or 200. The win is more important, but it does feel great to know that we got our running game going. Our offensive line has done a great job. Everybody has done a great job blocking for me so it makes my job easy."

On whether he said anything to the coaches at halftime about only having three carries in the first half:
"No, I would never do that. The coaches come up with a game plan and they know what they want to do. Coach Albin came and talked to us at halftime and said it was in the game plan to run the ball so once I heard that I did get excited. I didn't go up and ask for it."

On whether he was getting antsy not touching the ball much in the first half:
"Not antsy, but as a football player you always want the ball in your hands whenever you can. The coaches have a great game plan. If they decide for me to get the ball, then I'll get it, but if not, I'm going to play my role in the offense and do what I have to do for the team to be successful."

On if he's ever reflected on the numbers he has posted the last two seasons:
"Like I said, the win is always more important. The yardage is great. Being in the record book is huge as well. Just being able to know that when I leave the university, my name will still be in the books and the people behind me will have something to work for. The winning is always more important to me. Whatever I do to help this team win, that's what I'm going to do."
