ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio football team continued its first week of practice Tuesday in preparation for the season opener against Tennessee-Martin.
The team got a full day of practice in after being cut short due to thunderstorms on Monday. Head Coach Frank Solich feels good about this team and thinks the group of receivers will benefit the team.
"We've got a good group of receivers," Solich said. "I think we brought some young receivers in that have really added to the core. That should help them (quarterbacks) in terms of them coming up and making some catches that just aren't the average catch."
Head Coach Frank Solich
On what he expects out of the quarterback position
"What we're looking for is real accuracy on the part of the quarterbacks. Being able to make throws where guys can catch the ball on the run, get yards after the catch and score some points through the passing game. We put a lot of time and effort into it we need to make that end of it work."
On practicing with pads and contact
"Full pads will be the fifth day, that's when you're allowed to do it. That'll be Friday and the sixth day, Saturday, you're allowed to start two-a-days. It won't be too long after that we'll have some contact."
On the players working out in Athens this summer
"It was great to have our guys stay around and develop the kind of chemistry that's needed and continue to work on what they're all about as football players. We had around 90 guys that stayed here this summer and I think that's a real commitment by the players on our football team.
Senior left tackle Matt Coppage
On how he feels after his shoulder surgery
"I feel great. It feels great to be out here and back with the guys. I wouldn't expect any more out of myself at this point. I've been on my way for awhile."
On the offensive line this season
"We've been working hard. We had a great group this summer. I think everybody was here this summer so we spent a lot of time together and were able to do a lot of work together. Everybody's put on a lot of weight and gotten a lot stronger, and we're really excited about we're able to do this year"
Offensive Line Coach Keven Lightner
On last year's improvements and improving this season
"I feel good about last year, and we've got to take that next step. We've gotten even bigger and stronger. We've got more depth. We've got 10 solid guys up front so we can go two deep, and we have some guys who can play multiple positions. That's going to help us so I feel good about that."
