ATHENS, Ohio - After not registering any sacks during in its three losses, the Ohio defense has recorded seven sacks in the last three games, all victories. Watch highlights from Head Coach Frank Solich's weekly press conference as he discusses the defense's ability to put pressure on the quarterback.
Ohio is 5-0 this season when recording at least one sack and 0-3 when not getting to the quarterback. The Bobcats have lost seven straight games when not recording a sack. Since the start of the 2004 season, Ohio has averaged 2.5 sacks per game in its victories and just 1.2 quarterback takedowns in its losses.
Solich touched on a number of topics during his weekly media briefing. The Bobcat boss talked about the role special teams will play in Saturday's game at Kent State, the changing landscape of the Mid-American Conference and his team's confidence level after three straight wins. Fans can also watch Solich discuss the importance of being able to get a lot of players on the field during the win against Buffalo. He also gave his take on entering Saturday's game having won three straight games in consecutive weeks like the Bobcats or having an open week to prepare like Kent State.
Saturday's showdown with Kent State will determine which team controls their own destiny in the race for the MAC East Division championship. A Bobcat win would force a tie for first with the Golden Flashes atop the standings at 4-1, but the Bobcats would own the head-to-head tiebreaker. A Kent State win would give them a two-game lead over Ohio and Bowling Green.
The Bobcats will play one more road contest at Eastern Michigan on Nov. 4 before returning to Peden Stadium for its final home game of the season on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. versus Akron. For ticket information, call the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-575-CATS.
