MALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Michael McKean
Sport: Cross Country
Week's Achievements: Senior Michael McKean (Pataskala, Ohio) clocked a final time of 25:16.7 to take fifth place out of 287 total runners for Ohio men's cross country team in the overall men's division and led the team to a fifth-place finish and a total score of 119 at the All-Ohio Championship 8K in Cedarville, Ohio, last Friday (Sept. 30). The race marked his third top-10 finish and second top six this season.
FEMALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Maria Russell
Sport: Field Hockey
Major: Early Childhood Education
Week's Achievements: Junior forward Maria Russell (Hudson, Ohio) helped lead the Ohio field hockey team (4-6 1-0 MAC) to an exciting 4-3 overtime victory over Central Michigan (1-10, 0-3 MAC) on Friday (Sept. 30) at Pruitt Field in Athens, Ohio, finishing with two shots -- including one on goal. She tipped in the match-winning goal in overtime on an assist by junior Rachel Kho (Oakville, Ontario) to clinch the victory in Ohio's first Mid-American Conference match of the season. Russell has tallied five goals this season and 19 in her career.
