ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio men's golf team opens the 2017-18 season on Monday (Sept. 11) at the 2017 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

The 54-hole, two-day event is hosted by the Guyan Country Club in Huntington, W. Va. The teams will play two rounds on Monday before finishing the final 18 holes on Tuesday (Sept. 12).

The Bobcats haven taken part in the Marshall Invitational every year since 1968. Ohio won the first two Marshall Invitational titles, with Slugger White bringing home individual champion honors with a score of 217 in 1969.

Ohio finished in 11th place in the 2016 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a total team score of 875 (+35). The Bobcats carded rounds of 292 (+12) and 290 (+10) on Sept. 12, then shot a 293 (+13) the following day.

The Bobcats wrapped up the 2016-17 campaign with a third-place finish at the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships with a total team score of 1,183 (+31) at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The Bobcats achieved their best finish at the league tournament since taking third in 2012. On April 28, Ohio shot a 303 (+15) in the first round and followed it up with a 296 (+8) in the second, putting the Green & White in sixth place after the opening day of action. After the start of third-round competition was delayed by heavy storms moving through the area, the Bobcats tallied a 289 (+1) to move up the leaderboard. Ohio posted a final-round score of 295 (+7) on April 30. The Bobcats piled up 219 pars -- the most in the field -- en route to a top-three finish. Tom Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) used a final-round 72 (E) to claim seventh place with a 290 (+2), marking the highest finish of his Bobcat career. He shot rounds of 73 (+1) and 76 (+4) on Friday and followed them up with a 69 (-3) in the third round to climb up the leaderboard.

After taking part in the 2017 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Ohio will head to Toledo, Ohio, for Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 18-19) at Inverness Club.
