ATHENS, Ohio -- The 2018-19 Ohio men's golf schedule has been released, as announced by first-year head coach Carter Cheves today.
The Bobcats are set to compete in a total of 10 tournaments this season -- five in the fall and five in the spring.
Ohio opens the Cheves era with the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 10-11) at the Guyan Country Club in Huntington, W. Va., marking the ninth-straight year the Bobcats will open a season at the tournament.
The Bobcats wrap up the September portion of their schedule with a visit to Richmond, Ky., for the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16), which will be held at the University Club-Arlington.
Ohio return to competition at the Firestone Invitational (Oct. 1-2) in Akron, Ohio, making it seven years in a row they have competed in the event. The Bobcats will then head to Bridgeport, W. Va., to take part in The Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational (Oct. 8-9) at Pete Dye Golf Club, competing in the event for the second year in a row.
The Bobcats' 2018 fall schedule concludes with the Phoenix Intercollegiate (Oct. 15-16) at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C.
Ohio begins its spring slate with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play (Feb. 11-12) at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla. Formerly known as the Mid-American Match Play, the event was renamed in 2015 in honor of Earl Yestingsmeier, who passed away in January 2014 at age 80. Yestingsmeier spent 36 seasons leading the Ball State men's golf program, including 31 in a dual role as sports information on director and golf coach. Ohio has competed in the match play event each of the past six seasons.
The Bobcats will then make their way to the 'Home of American Golf', Pinehurst, N.C., to play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 8-10). This tournament will be played on course No. 8 and will be an opportunity for the team to compete at one of the most historical venues in all of golf for the second year in a row.
Ohio's final two regular season tournaments feature two new additions to the schedule. The Bobcats will head to Williamsburg, Va., for the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate (March 24-26) at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club-Gold. Ohio's last tournament of the regular season sends the Bobcats across the state to play in the Wright State Invitational (April 14-15) at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, N.C.
The 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships (April 26-28) will be held at Club Walden in Aurora, Ohio. Ohio has won 18 MAC titles in its storied history (1951, '52, '53, '54 (tie), '55, '57, '58, '59, '60, '61, '63, '64, '65, '67, '69, '71, '79, '80).
In addition to its 10-meet competition schedule, the men's golf team will once again team up with the women's golf team to host the 28th Annual Bobcat Open on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at The Lakes Golf and Country Club in Westerville, Ohio. The Bobcat Open serves as a fundraiser for the Ohio golf teams.
Senior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) -- a 2018 Academic All-MAC Team selection -- returns for a final season to lead a 2018-19 roster that will feature seven underclassmen.
