PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Ohio men's golf team finished the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in 11th place with a total team score of 908 (+56), advancing one spot on the leaderboard for the second day in a row after tallying a tournament-best 292 (+8) in the final round today at Pinehurst No. 8.
The Bobcats showed improvement each round. After posting a 315 (+31) in the first round on Friday (March 8), Ohio went for 13th to 12th on the leaderboard on Saturday (March 9) courtesy of a second-round 301 (+17).
Davidson captured the Pinehurst Intercollegiate title with a total team score of 859 (+7), winning the tournament by 29 strokes after rounds of 285 (+1), 287 (+3) and 287 (+3). Freshman Clayton Tribus of Davidson earned medalist honors with a score of 210 (-3), posting round scores of 67 (-4), 72 (+1) and 71 (E).
Sophomore Zach Crawford (Vandalia, Ohio) was the top finisher for Ohio, tying for 14th with a three-round total of 222 (+9). His third-round 73 (+2) was his best of the weekend after recording scores of 74 (+3) and 75 (+4), respectively, in the first two rounds.
Senior Ben Sattler (Liberty Township, Ohio) tied for 35th with a 228 (+15). Like Crawford, he shot a tournament-best 73 (+2) in the third round following rounds of 81 (+10) and 74 (+3).
Sophomore Austin Dyson (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomore Tanner Johnson (Venetia, Pa.) finished in a tie for 40th with identical two-round totals of 229 (+16). Dyson and Johnson joined Crawford and Sattler in shooting a tournament-best 73 (+2) in the final round. Dyson followed a first-round 79 (+8) up with a 77 (+6) in the second. Johnson shot a second-round 75 (+4) that followed up an 81 (+10) in the first.
Sophomore Zach Mandry (Solon, Ohio) placed 80th with a 242 (+29), tallying rounds of 82 (+11), 79 (+8) and 81 (+10).
Ohio will be back in action March 24-26 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
