Toledo, Ohio. --The Ohio men's cross country teams return home after competing in the MAC Championships. Josh Park finished first overall and crowned MAC Champion and the men overall finishing in fifth.
The Bobcat men finished fifth as a team in the 8k race with a final score of 119. The men were led by sophomore Josh Park (Amherst, Ohio) who finished first with a time of 24:08.8 also claiming a spot on the All-MAC first team. Park became the first individual MAC champion for Ohio since Josh Ritchie in 1996 and only the fourth since 1965. In 1964 legendary coach Moe Banton won the individual MAC title before going on to win the NCAA individual title. Banton later led the Ohio teams as their coach to 9 MAC team titles (8 women, and 1 men's title). Coach Banton was followed by Bob Bertelson in 1970 and Josh Ritchie in 1996. The next Bobcat to cross the line was red shirt sophomore Griffin Butler (Newark, Ohio) with a time of 25:37.6 followed closely by sophomore John Jaynes (Canal Winchester, Ohio) 25:32.8 and senior Zach Zimmerman (Pickerington, Ohio) 25:34.2. The remaining Bobcats: redshirt sophomore Dan Seas (Coldwater, Ohio) 25:54.5, junior Nate Mallue (Massillon, Ohio) 26:02.9, and freshman Czar Tarr (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 26:30.1.
