CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ohio softball senior pitcher Danielle Stiene was named the Mid-American Conference East Pitcher of the Week for her performance the week of Feb. 19, the league announced today.
Stiene (Loveland, Ohio) led the Bobcats in the circle at the 2018 Homewood Suite Invitational hosted by NC State this past weekend. Stiene registered a 1.26 ERA, allowed four earned runs and struck out 21 in 22.1 innings. She made four appearances, starting two games and going 3-1 on the weekend, including two complete games. She allowed 18 hits, while opponents hit .220 against her.
On Feb. 23 against Delaware State, Stiene entered the game in the first inning, pitching the rest of the way, going 4.1 innings, allowing no runs on no hits and struck out five and walked one in 14 batters faced in the Bobcats 12-4 five inning win. Later in the day against Wagner, Stiene entered the game, pitching 3.0 innings, and did not allow a run on one hit and struck out three of the 10 batters she faced in the Bobcats 8-5 nine-inning victory.
On Feb. 24 against NC State, Stiene pitched a complete game in the 5-2 win against the Wolfpack. Stiene went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking four and striking out 10. Stiene then came pack and pitched the final game of the series on Sunday, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits in eight innings of work, she walked one and struck out three in Ohio's only loss on the weekend.
The Bobcats are back in action March 3-4 when they head to Lexington, Ky. for the 2018 John Cropp Classic, hosted by Kentucky.
