CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ohio women's basketball freshman guard Cierra Hooks was named the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week for her performance the week of Jan. 29, the league announced today.
This is the first time in her career that the Dayton, Ohio native has earned the honor, as she helped lead the Bobcats to an 80-76 upset victory over Ball State on Feb. 3.
In her one game this week, Hooks recorded her first career start and made the most of it. To go along with it being her first career start, Hooks registered her first career double-double with a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds.
She also dished out an assist and had three steals and only turned the ball over twice in 33 minutes of action. In the field, Hooks went 8-of-17 (.470) and went 12-of-19 from the free throw line, including hitting six free throws in the final minute to seal the victory over Ball State.
The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when Ohio hosts MAC-leading Central Michigan. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.
