CLEVELAND – Redshirt freshman forward Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (Dec. 18).
Johnson earns weekly conference honors for the first time in her career. She's the third Bobcat to be named the MAC East Player of the Week, joining sophomore forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) and junior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) who won the award earlier this season.
Johnson was the leading scorer in Ohio's road win over IUPUI on Sunday afternoon. Johnson put up a career-best 22 points in her a career-high 35 minutes on the floor. The Mansfield, Ohio native shot 58. 3 percent (7-of-12) from the floor and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. She also added seven rebounds – including three offensive boards – and six assists in the win. Johnson is averaging 11.6 points per game this season, 4.7 helpers per game and five rebounds per game.
