ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball program released its 2019-20 schedule, head coach Bob Boldon and the Mid-American Conference announced today (Sept. 4). Ohio will play four non-conference home games and seven non-conference road games while the MAC schedule is spilt with nine road games and nine home games. The Bobcats will also play in the neutral-site Daytona Beach Invitational, where the opponents are to be determined.
Ohio will play four Power Five teams and four teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season. OU is set to face nine teams that finished the 2019 season in the Top-100 of the RPI.
"Coach Jackson works hard – often years in advance – to create a competitive schedule that prepares us for MAC play and beyond," head coach Bob Boldon said. "The NCAA committee showed us that playing and beating Power Five schools is an important metric in the RPI, so we scheduled several this season. Coach Jackson deserves a lot of credit for getting us home games while our students are on campus as well as playing highly competitive games."
The Bobcats will open the season with their annual Dad's Weekend exhibition against Walsh on Nov. 2. Walsh is coached by former Ohio assistant Kate Bruce.
Ohio opens the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Syracuse. The Orange made the ACC Championship game last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse finished the season ranked No. 10 in the RPI ranking.
After back-to-back home games against American (Nov. 10) and Marshall (Nov. 13), Ohio will head to Ohio State on Nov. 17. The Bobcats and OSU have not faced off since 2004.
The Bobcats returns home to take on Incarnate Word on Nov. 23 for the first time in program history.
Ohio will then hit the road for the Daytona Beach Invitational on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30. The opponents of the tournament are to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
After returning from Daytona Beach, the Bobcats will host 2019 WNIT participant IUPUI on Dec. 7. OU took down IUPUI on the road last season, 73-66. Erica Johnson had a breakout game against the Jaguars after scoring 22 points.
The Bobcats will then hit the road for a two-game road swing in the Lone Star State when they take on Texas and TCU. UT made the NCAA Tournament last season, while the Horned Frogs advanced to the WNIT semifinals.
Ohio will wrap up non-conference play on the road at Chattanooga on Dec. 29.
"I am not sure that we are good enough to play in the NCAA Tournament, but we wanted to give our players a chance to earn their way into the tournament with a challenging nonconference schedule," Boldon added.
After non-conference play, Ohio will head back to The Convo to open MAC play with Northern Illinois (Jan. 4) and Central Michigan (Jan.8). Last season, Ohio and CMU spilt the season series last year, while the Bobcats beat NIU twice. Ohio will then hit the road for two games as they head to Buffalo (Jan. 11) and Western Michigan (Jan.15). OU comes back to Athens to play Ball State before heading to Northern Illinois (Jan. 22). The Bobcats will wrap up January with two home games against Bowling Green (Jan. 25) and Akron (Jan. 29).
The Bobcats open February with two games on the road at Central Michigan (Feb. 1) and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 5). After returning home to face Kent State on Feb. 8, Ohio will head to Miami on Feb. 15 to face the RedHawks for the first time in the 2019-20 season. OU will take on Toledo for the only time in the 2019-20 campaign on Feb. 19 at The Convo.
