NORMAL, Ill. – The Ohio women's golf team opened the 2017-18 season today at the 2017 Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State at the Weibring Golf Club. The Bobcats opened the first round with a 314 and followed that up with a second-round score of 316 for a two-round total of 630 (+54), which places them in ninth please ahead of Monday's final round.
Leading Ohio is junior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) who is currently in eighth place after shooting a first round total of 74 and followed that up with an afternoon round of 77 to finish Sunday with a two-round total of 151 (+7).
Next for Ohio is junior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) who finished the first round with a 79 and then shot a second-round score of 80 for a day one total of 159 (+15). Hughes currently sits tied for 34th place.
Senior Lily Pendy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) is currently tied for 37th after the first two rounds. Pendy opened up the completion by shooting a 79 and came back later in the day for a second-round total of 81 to finish the day +16 (160). Sophomore Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) is also tied for 37th place, finishing the first round with an 82 and finished the day by shooting a second-round score of 78 for a two-round total of 160 (+16).
Rounding out the Bobcats' scoring five is freshman Amanda Hayes (Dayton, Ohio) who is currently in 70th place after shooting a first round score of 83 and then finishing the day with a second-round score of 88 for a first day total of 171 (+27).
Playing unattached for Ohio is freshman Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio) who opened the tournament with a first round total of 80 and then shot a second-round score of 83, giving her a two-round total of 163 (+19), tying her for 54th place.
The Bobcats return to action Monday, Sept. 11 to wrap up the 2017 Redbird Invitational with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
