Ohio Women’s Golf Set for 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships

ATHENS, Ohio– The Ohio women's golf team is set to compete in the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships that runs from Friday, April 20 to Sunday, April 22. This year's tournament is hosted by Northern Illinois at the Naperville Country Club in Naperville, Ill. Par is set at 72 with teams teeing off starting at 9 a.m. on the first hole and 10:30 on the 10th hole.

 During the three-round tournament, competitors will see a 6,092-yard course length on the first day of competition, while rounds two and three will see a 6,028-yard course. 

This year's competing five for the Bobcats include senior Lily Pendy, juniors Emily Hughes and Nicole Smiley, sophomore Marissa Balish, and freshman Ashley Flynn.

Pendy competed in all eight events this season. In 22 rounds this season she recorded 1,713 strokes for a 77.86 average. Her lowest round was 72 which she recorded at the Rio Verde Invitational in the second round. 

Hughes, Smiley, and Balish also competed in all eight events this season. They averaged 77.95, 77.09, and 80.31 strokes, while recording low rounds of 67, 71, and 72 respectively. Hughes' low round came at the Dolores Black Invitational where she placed first. Both Smiley and Balish scored their low rounds at the Nittany Lion Invitational. 

In six events and 19 rounds during her freshman season, Flynn recorded 1,578 strokes, averaging 83.05 this season. Her lowest round was 75 at the Rio Verde Invitational. 

Ohio finished tied for third in last year's championship tournament, ending with a three-round total of 922 (+58). Balish impressed in her first MAC Tournament, tying for 12thafter shooting a 75 on Sunday, finishing the competition with a three-day total of 230 (+14). Pendy finished the weekend tied for 18thafter shooting a 230, followed by Smiley who finished tied for 26thwith a 233. 

The Bobcats have finished third the past two season and previously, Ohio has claimed second place three times ('01, '02, and '05), but is still looking for its MAC Championship victory.

The Bobcats are coming off of the Dolores Black Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green on April 7thand 8th. Ohio finished third in the tournament, with Hughes shooting a career- low 67 and winning the tournament.
