YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2018 Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, hosted by Eastern Michigan at the 6,176-yard Eagle Crest Golf Club, on Tuesday (Oct. 9) afternoon. The Bobcats finished the event in eighth-place after registering a second-round score of 315, giving them a two-day total of 629 (+53).
Bowling Green won the individual championship after recording a two-round total of 592 (+16).
Leading Ohio was senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio), who finished Tuesday with a round of 80, giving her a two-day total of 152 (+8), which helped her finish tied for 10th.
Next was fellow senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio), who finished the tournament tied for 18thplace. Smiley finished the day with a 75, giving her a 36-hole total of 155 (+11).
Freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) finished the tournament tied for 27thplace, the highest finish of her career thus far. Loftus wrapped up Tuesday with a round of 79, giving her a two-day total of 158 (+14).
Senior Hannah Travis (Lancaster, Ohio) finished tied for 49thplace, after registering a score of 81 in the final round, giving her a total of 164 (+20). Rounding out the scoring Bobcats was junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.), who finished in 59thplace after recording a score of 89 on Tuesday, finishing +29 (173) on the week.
Competing unattached for the Bobcats was sophomore Ashley Flynn (Dublin, Ohio), who finished the final round with a score of 87, giving her a two-day total of 166 (+22), helping her finish tied for 53rdplace.
Up next, the Bobcats will conclude the fall portion of their schedule Sunday, Oct. 14 through Monday, Oct. 15 at the 2018 Fall Preview. The two-day event is hosted by Central Michigan at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.
