LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The Ohio women's golf team opened play at the 2019 Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Monday (Feb. 4) at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club. The Bobcats opened the day falling to Central Michigan, 4-1, before wrapping up Monday against Morehead State, where the match would finish all square, with Morehead State winning the tiebreaker.
In the Bobcats' matchup with Central Michigan in the morning rounds, freshman Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio) would fall to CMU's Bria Colosky, 4&2. Junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) would defeat Holly Hines, 2&1, while freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) would fall to Danielle Sawyer, 5&4. In the final two pairings of the match, senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) would fall to Meghan Deardorff, 2UP, while senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) would drop her match to Jami Laude, 3&2, giving Central Michigan the 4-1 victory.
In their next matchup of the day, the Bobcats would battle Morehead State, where the first pairing would see Porvasnik fall to Isabella Washka, 5&4. Balish would win her second match of the day, defeating Ana Dieguez, 2&1, and Loftus would finish her match with Elison Alaan all square. Smiley would win her matchup with Bridget Connolly, 3&2, while Hughes would round out the Bobcats, falling to Gypsie Hutchinson, 5&4. At the end of the match, the Bobcats and Morehead State would finish the match all square.
The Bobcats will open the final day of the 2019 Mid-American Match Play Challenge on Tuesday morning (Feb. 5) with Ohio taking on Purdue Fort Wayne. The first pairing is set to tee off at 9 a.m.
