RIO VERDE, Ariz. –The Ohio women's golf team wrapped up play at the rain-shortened Rio Verde Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan at the 6,075- yard Quail Run Golf Course, on Sunday (Feb. 24). The Bobcats finished the 36-hole event tied for 12thplace after registering a 303 on Sunday, giving them a two-round total of 616 (+48).
Xavier finished the tournament as the team champions after finishing with a two-day total of 591 (+8).
Leading Ohio was junior Marissa Balish (Allison Park, Pa.) who wrapped up play tied for 26thplace. Balish finished Sunday with a second-round score of 74, giving her a two-round total of 151 (+9). Senior Nicole Smiley (Dublin, Ohio) is next for the Bobcats who wrapped up the final day with a 74, giving her a two-round total of 154 (+12). Smiley's score helped her finish the tournament tied for 39thplace.
Freshman Catherine Loftus (Roswell, Ga.) also finished the competition tied for 39thplace after finishing Sunday with a 75, giving her a tw0-day tally of 154 (+12). Senior Emily Hughes (Columbus, Ohio) finished the tournament tied for 55thplace. Hughes finished the tournament with a Sunday score of 80, giving her a two-round score of 157 (+15).
Rounding out the scoring Bobcats was senior Chloe McKinzie (Media, Ohio), who finished Sunday with a score of 83, giving her a two-day total of 166, helping her finish +24 and tied for 90th-place.
Competing as an individual was freshman Alicia Porvasnik (Hinckley, Ohio) who finished tied for 92nd place after tallying an 87 on Sunday, giving her a two-round score of 167 (+25).
Up next, the Bobcats travel to Dade City, Florida on Monday, March 11 through Tuesday, March 12 for the 2019 Spring Break Shootout. Hosted by Western Kentucky University and Florida Gulf Coast University, the tournament will take place at the 7,226 yard Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Par is set at 72 strokes.
