MANHEIM, Pa. – The Ohio University wrestling team was recognized as one of the Top 30 Academic Division I Teams by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as announced Thursday (April 20).
The Bobcats recorded a 3.25 team cumulative GPA after the 2017-18 season, earning the 19th spot in this year's list moving up from 27th after the 2016-17 season.
Five Mid-American Conference teams were represented in the Top 30. Kent State took second in the rankings with a team GPA of 3.49 while Eastern Michigan (3.33) and Central Michigan (3.29) fell in 11th and 14th respectively. Northern Illinois was the last MAC program in this year's list, earning a team GPA of 3.18 for the 22nd spot.
Harvard claimed the top academic team spot for the fifth time in six years with a 3.56 team GPA. Behind Kent State, Sacred Heart, American and Stanford round out the top five, followed by Utah Valley, North Dakota State, Drexel, Campbell and Ohio State to complete the top 10.
The NWCA determines the team GPA using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. A total of 10 of these came from the wrestlers that were entries in the NCAA tournament conference qualifier.
