2017-18: Capped off a great season with his second trip to the NCAA Tournament ... Took 2nd in the Hokie Open with a close loss to Dennis Gustafson of Virginia Tech (9-7) and lost to Josh Terao (American) in the Navy Classic finals, 4-3 ... Won the Bearcat Open with a win over Vito Arujau (6-5) ... Longest winning streak of the season started on Nov. 12 and ended Nov. 18, encompassing nine consecutive wins during that span ... Biggest win of the year came against Josh Terao in the American dual (9-3), earning MAC Wrestler of the Week honors and a No.11 ranking from Intermat Wrestling ... Finished the season with a record of 25-7, five pins, eight technical falls, and seven major decisions.
2016-17: Kelly finished the 2016-17 season with a 23-11 overall record. He recorded four falls, four wins by technical fall and four major decisions. He placed second at the Bearcat Open, second at the Navy Classic, seventh at the Midlands Invitational and seventh at the MAC Tournament. Kelly’s dual meet record was 7-5, where he beat Buffalo’s nationally ranked Brian Lantry.
2015-16: Posted a 23-9 record… Won the Michigan State Open… In eight Mid-American Conference matches, he dropped just one match and finished with a 7-1 record… Went 2-2 at MAC Championships to finish fourth at 133-pound weight class… Qualified for the NCAA Championships as the No. 13 seed in the 133-pound weight class.
Prior to Ohio: Captained wrestling team during all four years of high school…2012 state champion…2013 state runner-up…2014 state runner-up…2015 Ironman champion and state champion…In 2015, he received the Dave Shultz Award, Ohio Division Two Most Valuable Player and Wrestler of the Year…He was his school’s first state champion, had the most points in his school and best winning percentage...His team finished sixth in the state in 2014 and fourth in 2015…He taught at pee-wee wrestling camps…He was an honor roll student.
