ATHENS, Ohio –The Ohio women’s soccer team takes on Northern Kentucky in an exhibition Monday, Aug. 8. The first of two exhibition matches for the Bobcats this preseason is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Chessa Field.
BOBCATS OPEN CAMP
The Ohio soccer team opened fall camp on Aug. 3 and OhioBobcatTV caught up with them to check out how it went.
The Ohio women’s soccer team finished the 2015 season 5-13-0 and 3-7-0 in the Mid-American Conference. Ohio recorded 17 total goals on 207 total shots.
Nine Bobcats were named Academic All-MAC to conclude the 2015 season.
LIFETIME AGAINST NKU
Ohio and the Norse have never met in a regular season game.
In 2009, Ohio shutout Northern Kentucky 2-0 in exhibition action at Chessa Field.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky is entering Monday’s game after finishing the 2015 season going 11-5-2. The Norse finished the 2015 campaign with 33 goals on 305 total shots.
2015 TEAM LEADERS
Alexis Milesky recorded four goals for Ohio and 26 shots, 18 of which were on goal. Milesky is also tied for eighth in goals in the Ohio record book.
Hannah Jaggers scored one goal for Ohio while recording 31 shots this season 10 of which were on goal. Carly Manso recorded 15 shots on goal and 32 shots total.
Taylor Smith recorded 75 saves in her 13 games in goal for Ohio.
2015 MAC STANDINGS
Ohio finished the season in the 11th spot in shots in the MAC with 207 on the season. The Bobcats also finished fourth in saves with 100.
In goal, Smith ranked sixth in saves with 75 while also finishing in ninth in save percentage while she went third in saves per game averaging 5.77. Smith also tied for ninth in shutouts, recording two shutouts on the season.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
Alexis Milesky is now tied for eighth all time in goals at Ohio with 14 career goals.
FINDING THE TWINE
The Bobcats finished the 2015 campaign with 17 goals on the season.
This season, three of the team’s top six goal scorers return in 2016 - including Allie Curry (Fairfield, Ohio), Alexis Milesky (Plain City, Ohio), and Hannah Jaggers (Taylorsville, Ky.). In goal, Taylor Smith (Uniontown, Ohio) is back in the mix and Rianna Reese (Liberty Township) also returns to help slow down the opposition’s attack.
The Bobcats have added seven new student-athletes to the mix this fall, welcoming Alivia Milesky (Plain City, Ohio), Olivia Sency (Medina, Ohio), Remi Eades (New Albany, Ohio), Courtney Daugerdas (Libertyville, Ill.), Sydney Leckie (Medina, Ohio) and Alli Miller (Dayton, Ohio).
BOBCATS ADD A TRANSFER
The Bobcats added transfer Bryce Hueber (Cincinnati, Ohio) to the roster this offseason.
Hueber, a midfielder played two seasons for the Wright State. In 2015 her was named All-Ohio and first-team All Horizon League. The Cincinnati, Ohio native played and started in 19 games and scored six goals with two coming against Youngstown State. She also registered three assists with 62 shots, 25 on goal. She was also responsible for four game winning goals. As a freshman in 2014 she was named to the Horizon League Freshman Team. She played in 17 games with 19 shots on goal three goals and one assist and finished the season with seven total points.
Nine members of the team were named to the 2015 Academic All-MAC Team and four were named Academic All-Ohio to conclude the season.
CAPTAINING THE ‘CATS
Senior forward Alexis Milesky has been named captain for the 2016 season, with junior Celeste Fushimi-Karns and sophomore Rianna Reese earning the assistant captain title.
The Bobcats will travel to Valparaiso, Ind. to battle with Valparaiso in the final exhibition game of the preseason. First kick is set for 12 p.m.
