ATHENS, Ohio – Four of the Ohio women's swimming team head to the 2017 Winter National Championships to compete from Wednesday through Saturday (Nov. 29-Dec. 2) hosted by Ohio State. Samantha Glass, Emilia Lahtinen, Corrin Van Lanen, and Emily Zimcosky look to kick off competition at 6 p.m. in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Heats are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. throughout the rest of the weekend.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
The Bobcats will compete with four members of the Ohio swim team including freshman Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.), juniors Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) and Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) and sophomore Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.). In order to compete at the 2017 Winter Nationals, the swimmers had to qualify with a certain time depending on their event during 2017.
Considering that Glass is in her first season as a Bobcat, the freshman qualified for the 2017 Winter Nationals competing for her club team before coming to Ohio.
This weekend, Glass will swim in the 200-yard and 400-yard IM, the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly. Glass qualified for these events by swimming at or under the times of 2:03.79 in the 200-yard IM, 4:23.69 in the 400-yard IM, 2:01.29 in the 200-yard backstroke, and 2:03.29 in the 200-yard butterfly.
So far this season, Glass swam her best time in the 200-yard IM at the TYR Invite where she clocked in a time of 2:03.77. In the 400-yard IM, she posted a time of 4:24.16 also at the TYR Invite. Her best time in the 200-yard backstroke was a 2:01.70 posted at the 2017 TYR Invitational and her best time in the 200-yard butterfly was a 2:03.19 posted at the Buffalo dual.
Lahtinen looks forward to competing in the 100-yard and the 200-yard breaststroke this weekend. To qualify for these races, she had to swim a time of or under 1:03.09 in the 100-yard and a time of 2:15.89.
So far this season, Lahtinen's best time in the 100-yard breaststroke was posted at the TYR Invite with a time of 1:03.72. In the 200-yard breaststroke, her best time was also posted at the TYR Invitational with a time of 2:18.83.
At the 2016-17 Mid-American Conference Championships, Lahtinen recorded a personal- and team-best time of 1:03.30 in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also holds the team-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.84 posted at the Marshall Invite.
Corrin Van Lanen
Van Lanen plans to compete in three events this weekend including the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard butterfly. To qualify for these events, Van Lanen had to swim at or under times of 22.89 in the 50 free, 49.89 in the 100 free, and 54.19 in the 100 fly.
Van Lanen posted all three qualifying times at the 2016-17 MAC Championships, where she recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.55. In the 100-yard freestyle, Van Lanen posted a time of 49.69. In the 100 fly, the junior posted a time of 53.13 to place second in the conference.
Zimcosky will swim in the 100-yard and the 200-yard freestyle events this weekend. To qualify for these events, it was required to swim a time of or better than 49.89 in the 100 free and a time of 1:47.79 in the 200 free.
During the 2016-17 MAC Championships, Zimcosky recorded a time of 49.97 in the 100 free and 1:48.40 in the 200 free
